13--our Savior and our sin

29.Q. Why is the Son of God called, "Jesus," meaning "Savior"?
A.Because He saves us from our sins. Salvation cannot be found in anyone else; it is futile to look for any salvation elsewhere.

30.Q. Do those who look for their salvation and security in saints, in themselves, or elsewhere really believe  in the only Saviour Jesus?
     A. No.  Although they boast of being His, by their deeds they deny the only Saviour and deliverer, Jesus.  Either Jesus is not a perfect Saviour, or those who in true faith accept their Saviour have in Him all they need for their salvation.

Matthew 26:21-22,56,67,75

Now as they were eating, He said,"Assuredly, I say to you, one of you will betray Me." And they were exceedingly sorrowful, and each of them began to say to Him, "Lord, is it I?"

Then all the disciples forsook Him and fled.

Then they spat in His face...

And Peter remembered the word of Jesus who had said to him, "Before the rooster crows, you will deny Me three times."  The he went and wept bitterly.

Without this sense of NEED, our prayers are of no use to the glory of God or of any good to the souls of men.

O God, whose glory it is always to have mercy: Be gracious to all who have gone astray from your ways, and bring them again with penitent hearts and steadfast faith to embrace and hold fast the unchangeable truth of your Word, Jesus Christ your Son; who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. - from the Book of Common Prayer
